Swatches and Review: Beautifully Disney Frozen Collection Palette and Lipsticks

Happy Winter! Sorry about the long absence, school ate me up but I'm back and BETTER THAN EVER-- or I'm just back to write you some of posts on makeup. Anyway, I'm so excited to tell you about this collection today.  Beautifully Disney is a cosmetics line created by Disney specifically for the Disney Parks, meaning that you can only buy these products at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California or Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida or in limited supplies on the Disney website while supplies last.

I'm one of the fortunate people to be able to have an annual pass to Disneyland after wanting one for years (Yay for being an adult!). I've walked by the Beautifully Disney display with only some curiosity and no motivation to buy the products because while the packaging and themes are cute (Disney Classic Villains, Sleeping Beauty) the products themselves don't appeal to me much.  There are a lot of lip glosses and nail polish, and the palettes were nothing that I wanted to drop $40 for. BUT LO AND BEHOLD Disney got smart and created a FROZEN Beautifully Disney Collection.  I SCREAMED. I love Frozen (surprise surprise) and have been DYING to see if Sephora or Disney would get to making a line inspired by Frozen.

I picked up the Palette and the mini lipsticks about... maybe a week after the announcement came out.  I wasn't too interested in the nail polish or the perfume rollers Glitter rollers (In Elegant Ice and Sparkling-- thanks for the information Lizzette!).  This a very PICTURE HEAVY post so proceed with that in mind! If you don't care for the individual analysis, please feel free to skip to the bottom for my final impressions. On to the swatches :)

Let's start with the mini lipsticks.  The pack comes with 4 mini lipsticks each at .04 oz each.  The mini lipstick set costs $24.50USD + Tax each.

Beautifully Disney Frozen Mini Lipsticks in (L-R): Optimistic, Queen to Be, Radiant Heart, Regal Beauty
These lipsticks are definitely minis, but they're so cute.  All of them are sheer but can be built up to an extend and glossy. Optimistic is a sheer purple and Queen to Be is a beautiful magenta color, it reminds me a lot of Elsa's lip color in the movie. Radiant Heart is a warm nude color, the sheerest of the four.  Regal Beauty is such a nice coral-y color, it would look great on any skin tone.

I took Queen To Be out for the a spin to gauge the longevity of the lipsticks, as well as how it feels on my lips.  The lipstick was expectedly slippery and very glossy.  Because I don't like lipsticks that are too glossy, I did blot after my application to tone it down.  I had to apply 2-3 layers for opaque-ness but I was pleasantly surprised by the pigmentation of the tiny lipstick. While it had some slip, it actually didn't make me feel like it was going to feather at all, and was very moisturizing.  It didn't last very long on my lips, but I LOVED the stain it left behind.  It was a beautiful berry pink.

You can see here how it is definitely a glossy finish, very high shine.

This color is VERY accurately named, it definitely reminds me of Elsa's lips right after she builds her ice castle:

Overall, I was impressed by the lipsticks, only because I wasn't expecting much.  You can't compare these lipsticks to any mid-high end cosmetics, but for products that came from a company that doesn't specialize in cosmetics, it was great.  They are moisturizing, shiny, and while they're not long lasting, the darker colors leave a beautiful stain behind that lasts until you wipe it off with makeup remover. The mini lipsticks are $24.95USD + tax, and while the price is pretty steep in my opinion, if you are fortunate enough to be a pass holder or know one, the discount makes it more worth it, especially for the Frozen/Disney fan you know.

The lipsticks are cute, but I am absolutely in love with the packaging for the eyeshadow palette.  The Beautifully Disney Frozen Eyeshadow Palette comes with 8 pans of color, half on the "Anna" side, and half on the "Elsa" side, costing $39.95USD + tax.

The first four colors on the box (Exquisite Elegance, Winter Queen, Power Unleashed, Crystal Snowflake) are under the Elsa Side, while the last four colors (Touched by Magic, Optimism Rules, Fair Maiden, Follow Your Heart) are under the Anna flap.  Just as a side note, I love these names to death, although I wish they would have printed it on to the palette itself.

The one thing I would say that could really improve the packaging is actually if they flipped the pictures of Anna and Elsa on the cover.  While it makes sense right now because the shadows that correspond with each character is UNDER the character, I would like to see which character shadow I'm using when the flap is actually open, rather than the opposite.  Thanks Dreena for pointing this out :)

GUYS. Look at the top left pan.  When I opened it I was so sad to see that one pan had been placed awkwardly, and is sticking up from the palette itself.  While I could easily fix this (... in theory), I don't want to risk breaking the shadow.  This doesn't affect the palette's ability to open and close, I was just sad to see that after spending good money on the palette, the pan was placed improperly.

The Palette comes with a duo ended...tool...thing, with a sponge application on one end and a really crappy brush on other. I thought it would have been cute if the palette included an eyeliner, maybe a grey one based on Sven or even a gold one based on Kristoff's hair.

The Palette opens on two sides, as mentioned above, and there is a mini mirror on either flap. It's so small it's basically useless.

The pans are each about .5 grams each, compensating for the weight of the packaging.  I won't lie, I was disappointed in the pigmentation of these shadows-- there are one of two wonderful colors, but all together it was kind of a bummer.  I know I know I said so myself that these come from a company that don't really specialize in cosmetics and definitely cannot be compared to Mac or Sephora level brands, but ehhhh... these are pretty sad. The Palette is VERY glittery, which is expected.  Only three shades are matte: Exquisite Elegance and Fair Maiden, which are also the least pigmented colors in the palette, and Follow Your Heart is a satin-y shadow.

Power Unleashed is pretty accurately named because it's the only shadow on the Elsa side that gives me anything.  Believe me when I tell you I took 9238942384798234 pictures trying to get the best swatches to show.  In the second picture you can see how the glitter is pretty chunky, especially in Crystal Snowflake. Overall the Elsa side was sad for me, but I was looking forward to the Anna side more anyway.

Closer look at Touch By Magic and Optimism Rules

I DEFINITELY found that Anna eyeshadows are much more pigmented, even though that's not saying much.  But the glitter shades (Touch my Magic, Optimism Rules) are much beautifuller, I mean not fuller, it doesn't look fuller but more beautiful, than the Elsa shadows. The Primer didn't make much of a different on either the Anna or the Elsa shadows, besides on Fair Maiden.  I want to try this under NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk so I will definitely come back and update.

I was eager to see what these shadows looked like on my eyes after swatching them, although I had a feeling that these shadows, especially Anna's, would work much more beautiful as transition shades or with other palettes, but for the sake of this post I went for it.

I primed my eyes with ELF Essentials Eyeshadow Primer ($1) before putting the shadows on.  Here's what I ended up with:

Beautifully disney Frozen eyeshadow
Frozen Anna shadows
...Basically nothing.I placed Fair Maiden all over my lids up to my brow bone, then Follow Your Heart just on the lids, up to the crease. Then Optimism Rules on the front half, and Touched by Magic on the outer corner, blended into the crease.  Then I went back and tapped some Follow Your Heart into the center of my lids.  While I do think that because the colors are so near my skin tone and it made it harder to see, these shadows would look much better partnered up with a more pigmented palette.

The shadows come out better in bright, natural light, but if you're in an office setting all day, they wouldn't do much good.  You can see Queen to Be really well here, and I'm falling in love with it all over it.

My overall feelings on these products is that if you don't love Disney or Frozen, don't do it.  The lipsticks are decent, and the eyeshadows would look great mixed with other palettes, but on its own they're more disappointing, especially in the shadow pigmentations.

The entire Frozen Beautifully Disney Collection also includes mini nail polish and two perfume rollers, which I did not pick up.

Because of my annual pass discount I did not feel completely robbed by the purchase, however I do think that Disney could have done better for the cost of the palette and the mini lipsticks. For comparison, the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette is $29USD + Tax, which has two less shadows but much larger pans and significantly higher pigmentation.

I would recommend these products for the Disney/Frozen lover in your life who is also into makeup. While the quality of the makeup isn't mind blowing, I think the packaging and the theme itself is what Disney is really going for, which they nailed.  You can purchase these products and either Disneyland California Resorts or Disney World Orlando Resorts, but is currently unavailable on the Disney Store website. Other Beautifully Disney Collections are if you want to check those out.  The Palette is $39.95USD + tax, and the mini lipstick set is $24.95USD + Tax. Thanks for reading! Let me know in the comments if this is something you would buy for yourself or as a gift, or if this is definitely a pass for you.

  2. Those rollers are actually shimmering eyeshadow rollers. Elsa's shade is called "Elegant Ice", and Anna's shade is simply called "Sparkling." These rollers work well since you can pretty much control the amount of shimmer you want in your eyes. My 4 year old niece is a Frozen fan, and she loves them.
