Quick Tip: Make Eyeshadow POP with NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk

Welcome to the first of my “Quick Tips” series!  These posts are meant to give you tips on how to improve your technique or utilize your beauty tools in ways that you might have not thought to do!
This post is going to cover how to make even your most un-pigmented palette vibrant and colorful.

You might have heard from various forums such as Reddit's Makeup Addiction Group of NYX’s Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk, which is matte, solid white pencil. For $6, the NYX website describes it as “A radiant eye liner that also doubles as an eye shadow. Made with a blend of mineral oil and powder, our creamy Jumbo Eye Pencils glide on effortlessly—no pulling, tugging or fading—and come in a rainbow of vivid hues.”

While it is a great pencil on its own, wearing it UNDER your eyeshadows can improve the color of your shadows BIG. TIME.

To use Milk under your eyeshadow, make sure to apply primer to your lids a few minutes before applying Milk, giving it time to set.  Remember, Milk is NOT a primer, and WILL crease if used too thick and/or without an eyeshadow primer.  I prefer to use Two Faced shadow insurance, but you can find drugstore primers such as ELF Essential Eyelid Primer, which is only $1.00, which is a steal.

While applying Milk, I dot it on to my lids then gently blend it out with my fingers.  Repeat with thin layers until you achieve the level of whiteness you want.

This is two layers of Milk over TFSI.  I think one more layer would have been okay, but I decided to stop. The creamy texture of Milk will not only help make your eyeshadow pop, but also help the shadow itself cling on your lids more, preventing it from fading too quickly.

If you weren't convinced, I've included a swatch below of Wet n Wild’s 5 pan palette Art in the Streets with Milk, Primer, and bare skin under.

You can clearly see the difference in color intensity from top to bottom, using the same shadows all the way across. Milk is a great staple to have in your beauty arsenal, whether as a cream shadow, a shadow base, or even a highlighter.

You can find NYX sold at Ulta, Target, selected CVS locations, and on NYX’s own website.
I hope this quick tip has helped improve your makeup routine and inspired some new looks!
