Do Headband Curls Work On Long Hair?

Hello readers!  Sorry for the hiatus and lack of posting that's been happening.  Finals week and spring break took me by storm (and not in the fun way) and next thing I knew it's been weeks.  For my first post back from spring break we'll be talking about headband curls!

Most of you might have already heard of this trend, where with the help of a headband you can achieve curls without the use of heat tools, which is especially important to me.  Even with all the hair dying (I haven't seen my real hair color since... 8th grade?) I do to my hair, I'm really trying to grow up my hair to a healthy, long length.  I haven't used heated tools in months, and when I do it would be once every few weeks or so, at most.  So when I first heard about this method I was thrilled! However...

I have tried to get them to work since the beginning of last summer, and it just would NOT cooperate with my hair.  I would end up with tangles and knots all over, and have to resort in putting it up in a bun or ponytail to spare others from the sight of my horrible hair.

I decided to give it another go a few days ago, after seeing a successful headband curl tutorial made by someone with hip length hair.  If they can do it, I can was the mentality I had going into this.
After coming out of the shower, I toweled (t-shirt?) dried my hair until damp, but not dripping wet, and got started!

I followed the usual steps, twisting small sections of hair and adding a little more every twist until I hit the end of both sides, then tucked the remaining hair over the already twisted hair.I went to sleep with high hopes...

...The next morning, lo and behold, my hair hadn't even dried!  This is a big problem, because if your hair doesn't dry all the way through, when you take out the headband you'll be left with plain old damp hair. Sad face.

I had errands to run, and it happened to be Admit Day at my university so working at my major's tabling event made it impossible for me to think of a solution for the wet mess of my hair.

After a long day I decided to tried the headband method again, but with DRY hair. Blasphamy you say? nonsense.  It take make a slightly harder in the sense that you have to be conscious of not letting your headband slip off your head before you're able to twist the hair in, but it wasn't much different than working with wet hair.

After painstakingly putting my hair in the headband again in the last 12 hours, the logical step was to take a nap. Two hours later... (I love my naps.)

THEY. WORKED.  I almost couldn't believe my eyes.  I ended up with nice ringlet curls that loosened up to tight-ish waves that made me one happy camper.

They lasted for the rest of the night (~5 hours)!  I have yet to try them again since, but if you've been having trouble with it because you have longer, thick hair, definitely give it a go by doing it with DRIED hair.  I did NOT add any product before I wrapped it, but you may choose to do that for a longer hold.

Thanks for reading!  Hopefully I'll be better at updating soon.
